No Longer Human is a tea shop, a community, and an off-line social space; sharing the gifts of beauty and tranquility through tea with our friends and neighbors in Chicagoland and beyond.
No Longer Human exists to nurture the practice of tea making and aesthetic appreciation. To connect to our environment, our community, and ourselves.
We created No Longer Human to give tea a place to be contemplated and celebrated. Each offering is the product of gifted tea masters, craftspeople, and artisans; all created to hold the delicate perfection of a moment of tea. We hope that this space gives our guests an opportunity to disconnect from the attentional strain of the world and intentionally embrace this magic of a cup of tea. Every sip of tea is an opportunity to re-center, slow down, and embrace the gifts of nature and humanity. We hope our shop can be a part of this journey for anyone who enjoys our teas here or in their home.
No Longer Human exists because of the love and support of our families and neighbors, and the dedication and talent of farmers, tea makers, and artisans in Japan and around the world.
Perhaps we are coming to tea weary, humble, and thirsty, alienated by the creep of anti-social technology. This is the first meaning of the logo, the distant yearning, stained away from its humanity. But with tea as a guide we are nourished, connected, and content. And this is the blissful face; still humble and uncertain, but warmed and rooted from the guiding tranquility of a steeped leaf. If you are at risk of feeling no longer human, stop by for a cup.
